The western half of the Mare Fecunditatis, the Sea of Fertility, set into which is a pair of small but interesting craters (above and right of centre). Messier is an elongated crater, probably the result of an oblique impact. Messier A, to its west, is actually two overlapping craters. A pair of long rays extend westward from it, giving it the appearance of a comet.
