Joyfull!!! i had a great time traveling on the moon thru your site... iエd really enjoyed it a lot!!! i found very friendly and usefull the contruction of the site and the content of the articles itエs great as the pictures. Congratulations!!! (you should try the same with the stars, some day...er night i mean, sure you do it great) i just make an observation: could be better to consider and include more info about mythological references than "mysterious" ones. 。。。。。。。muy, muy chida!!!!!! I love to see the moon. Love your site. Here in Australia we see the moon more regularly in all it's phases in our mostly cloudless skies. Our skies are a joy to behold even from the naked eye we see so much. The man in the moon has always been a friend. It was a nightly ritual for our little son to say goodnight to the man in the moon before he would settle down to go to sleep. I swear though his face is upside down from the moon we used to see in England. Is this a fact or my imagination?

I have always been totally fascinated with our nearest celestial companion, and being an amateur astronomer, I view the Moon in its grandeur in any way I can. The Moon, so beautiful, so mysterious, that only in his dreams could man begin to touch her barren beauty. I have remembered those lines. And yes, those men who ventured there are truly "gallant" in the greatest meaning of th word. What fools we are to simply have given up on going there again. Think of it. If we Americans, in our competitive "Roman" pigheaded mindset had not worried so much about winning some damn "race" with the Russians, it is very conceivable people would today be living and working on the surface of the Moon. The thought of it is awesome and breath-taking.
You have a wonderful collection of information stored on this website. More power to you!

Good morning, everyone. I've just watched the Moon pass right by a lovely, bright Jupiter in the last few hours with an amazing Aurora Borealis covering over half the sky (beautiful red streaks radiating east and west from Andromeda combined with blue-green spikes and curtains all across the northern horizon) as a backdrop for good measure. These are most revealing programs, and is there some way you could present how the space program or moon landing project had to first assure that radio contact could bemade for space, and the resulting "bowl" dug and lined at Boulder, Colorado? Love your site and learn so much. A "blue moon" mistakenly refers to the second full moon in a month> The term actually refers to the fourth full moon in one season, which is rarer. The mixup comes from a reporter's error.
reply: Coincidentally, I have almost finished an article about this exact story. It should be completed and posted onto the site next month.

Thanks for a great site. I just started a lunar challenge through my local astronomical association. I know this site will help me tremendously - particularly with the objects I can't find anywhere in any of my books! And NEVER change the music. Nothing is more inspiring than listening to great works of art while admiring one of the most beautiful objects in the night sky. I'll be in touch when I get frustrated with my lunar challenge! :)
reply: I hope it goes well. Incidentally, work has begun on extending Inconstant Moon to include all of the objects in the Astronomical League lunar challenge list. Watch this space...

i am really interested in astronomical sciences which includes the moon. is it true that if the moon was millions of years old there would be at least a foot of dust, but when the astronauts stood on the surface there was only an inch hole where they stood? is it true that the earth is an artificial sattelite created by aliens to observe humans?
reply: On balance, the evidence is entirely consistent with the Moon being a natural satellite of the Earth, formed at broadly the same time as the remainder of the solar system, 4.7 billion years ago.

This website is great for all the information I needed, and it also tells what the moon will be like any day of the year! The music is great to because I'm in to the Classical Music. This site helped my teacher for the beach trip to see what the tide would be like, because on full moons, the tide is low, and on the days when the moon is not so full, the tide is high. That helped me because she needed to know what the moon would be like on the days that they were going in May.

My favorite, most appealing object in the night sky now available in sharp detail on my PC...Great! I can't afford a telescope right now, and have been frustrated during the full moon phase, which, up until now, I had to be content looking at from my street, longing to see a close-up view. Thank you for providing me with this wonderful site.

I have enjoyed watching the moon all my life. I am 45 years old and purchased a Meade ETX telescope in 1995 and have photograghed the moon many times. Last summer I photograghed the lunar eclipse and made a small photo album of my shots. My family and friends were quite impressed. I just found out about this site in the Ft. Worth Star-telegram. I like it and will visit this site frequently. Keep up the good work.

I happen to be a very lucky person who has witnessed the moment of a supernova without the use of a telescope: aprox. 1991 - the fall - lower eastern skies - aprox. 10:30p.m. Something so coincidence, something that happened hundreds of thousands of years ago. That got my attention!

I would like to know what causes the phases of the moon. I know it is the relation of the earth, sun, and moon. But what is that relation? Also, what is the difference between an eclipse of the moon and a new moon? Thank you, Joanne

i love your page, but i'm having a hard time finding just a regular map of the surface of the moon with the marias, valleys, ranges, etc. and their proper names listed there. is this here or am i looking in the wrong place? anway, i still think this is a great "sight"!
reply: There are some simple maps in the site, but I am working on a lunar atlas as a third section of the site after the lunar tours and the cyclopedia.

Nice, but please kill the music -- very irritating. The review in New Scientist's Site of the Day says there is no better way to drive people away, and I agree.
reply: Almost all of the comments I receive about the music are positive. However, knowing that it would not be to everyone's taste, I've included a "no music" option in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
