maurolycus

As seen from the Earth, the Moon's northern hemisphere is dominated by the smooth Maria. The southern hemisphere, however, is mostly rough upland. Maurolycus is one of the few craters prominent enough to stand out in this region, and sometimes appears stronger even than Tycho.
